A gastroscopy (upper endoscopy) uses a thin, flexible camera passed through the mouth to examine the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small bowel (duodenum). Small tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken painlessly during the test.

Capsule Endoscopy in Richmond
Capsule endoscopy lets your gastroenterologist see the small bowel — the part of the gut that a standard gastroscopy or colonoscopy cannot reach. You swallow a small, pill-sized camera that takes thousands of pictures as it passes naturally through the digestive tract, while a recorder worn on a belt stores the images.
You can usually go about light daily activities during the recording and return the equipment the same day. The capsule is disposable and passes naturally. Your gastroenterologist then reviews the images and discusses the results with you in Richmond.
