Do I need a referral for a colonoscopy?
Yes. You will need a referral from your GP or another specialist. We usually see you for a consultation in Richmond first to confirm the procedure is appropriate.
Where is the colonoscopy done?
Colonoscopy is performed as a day procedure at an accredited private hospital — Norwest Private Hospital or Lakeview Private Hospital. Your consultation and follow-up are in Richmond.

How do I prepare?

Will I be asleep?
Colonoscopy is performed under sedation given by an anaesthetist, so most people remember little or nothing. You must not drive for the rest of the day and will need someone to take you home.
Can polyps be removed during the test?
Yes. Most polyps can be removed during the colonoscopy and sent for testing, which is how colonoscopy helps prevent bowel cancer.
